Well, we came close…

Some of our Scouts enjoyed themselves when we were given a guided tour of the Airbus Defence & Space (EADS Astrium) factory in Stevenage on Wednesday 23rd July. We had a very informative evening learning how satellites are built, how they are protected when in space and we even got to see some of the materials used to make the satellites.

One highlight of the evening was the heat transfer pipe that heated up instantly it was placed in hot water, thankfully there were no burnt fingers!

Our Scouts and some of their parents got to see how components were made and see several satellites being assemble ready to go into space.

Probably one of the best bits was being able to see the Mars Rover prototypes being tested on a simulation of the surface of Mars, there was a lots of sand and not a sandcastle in sight.
